Career Exploration at W.C. Friday Middle School

Students can explore careers in technology, trades, health, and human services through programs such as:

  • Computer Science Discoveries I – Solve fun puzzles, challenges, and real-life problems by learning how to think through solutions. Discover how computers take in information, share results, save data, and help people solve problems. Create your own content and post it on a webpage using HTML and CSS. 
  • Computer Science Discoveries II – Create animations, art, and games by coding in Game Lab. Build apps that use simple shapes or more advanced games with characters and movement. Strengthen your problem-solving skills by figuring out what people need and making programs to help them. 
  • Computer Science Discoveries III - Use App Lab and Adafruit’s Circuit Playground to create programs that work with hardware like sensors and lights. Take part in the design process, from a simple idea to a finished product. Learn how hardware, like sensors, can be better for input and output than just a keyboard, mouse, or screen. Discover the skills and knowledge for jobs in computer science, IT, and technology.
  • Keyboarding and Word Processing – Get better at typing by using the touch method. Practice making simple documents with the right format. Build strong typing skills to help you use technology well. 
  • Introduction to Office Productivity - Learn about the different features in word processing and how to use them. Find out how to plan and give a good multimedia presentation. Explore how spreadsheets work and what they can do.
  • Exploring Business Procedures and Leadership - Learn about business basics and leadership. Build skills like good manners at work, making smart choices, and how to find and keep a job. Get ready for careers in business, finance, and marketing.
  • Career Exploration-Automotive -Take part in activities that teach important skills for careers in transportation and automotive work.
