Leadership Academy

About the Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy is designed around the motto that “every child can be a leader” and strives to create a middle school environment that helps students to build their confidence and discover their true potential.
During the middle school years as students go through a self-discovery phase of life, it is important for them to realize they have the potential to be an outstanding leader. As part of the “Leader in Me” model, students learn about empowerment, responsibility, integrity, vision, and teamwork/collaboration, which are qualities found in an effective leader. Additionally, students learn how to handle the challenges that adolescents face.
The following high school courses will be offered for middle school students: Math I, Spanish I, and World History. These courses give students an opportunity to see what it is like to take high school level courses and prepare themselves for what’s ahead. This program provides a pathway for students to participate in the Leadership Academy at North Gaston High School.
Students from outside the W.C. Friday attendance area who will be in the sixth grade for the 2025-2026 school year may apply for this program. A lottery process will be used to determine the sixth grade students who will attend (from outside the W.C. Friday attendance area).
